Description

Our client, a leading telecommunications company is currently seeking a Packet Core Operations to join their team based in Dublin on a contract position.

 

Role Purpose:

 

The role will work within the Packet Core Operations team having responsibility for maintaining the stability of the Packet Core Network and all data traffic on the 3G and 2G Core Networks. The role also covers Roaming data, Service Enabler links with IN and associated infrastructure and also Consumer & Corporate APN maintenance. The role will need to identify and make recommendations to ensure the availability of the Packet Core network through design, change management, incident management and communication with vendors.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Admin & Maintenance of Packet Core infrastructure, specifically: SGSN, GGSN, CSG(Cisco), DNS and associated nodes.
  • Identification and resolution of issues within the Packet Core networks both proactive and reactive
  • Guide & drive initiatives on ensuring availability and security of Packet Core network
  • Work closely with Core Networks, Design and Network Monitoring teams.
  • Provide support and mentoring to less experienced team members.
  • Liaise with Monitoring centre to efficiently resolve Packet Core network issues
  • Work closely with relevant project teams for formal handover of fully tested solutions into operational service following the SIM process.
  • Build and maintain awareness of commercial and product offerings to future proof team knowledge and network support.
  • Will require flexibility to perform oncall duties for the Packet Core Team one week in four.
  • Prepare and implement project and maintenance work to be done during night time maintenance windows.

Skills Requirements:

  • 5 years+ experience in a GSM/GPRS Packet Switching Environments
  • Experience of 3G, 2G, GPRS, EDGE and wireless internet technology
  • In depth knowledge of data protocols/functions (TCP/IP, Radius, MPLS, WLAN, SS7, GSM).
  • Experience in APN and Interoperability with IN & VAS Systems).
  • Experience in nodes: SGSN, GGSN, Charging Gateways(Cisco), and DNS with particular preference to Ericsson Core).
  • Good process knowledge and working standards
  • An ability to overcome obstacles and to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • An ability to give strong direction to projects while working well within project teams
  • An ability to communicate knowledge to others and mentor in both technical & non-technical environment
  • An ability to influence others outside the team to ensure goals are met
  • Proven ability to continually improve technical expertise
  • A willingness to operate in high pressure situations whilst maintaining the ability to give clear direction to others

Desirable:

  • Formal Telecoms qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in both Packet & Circuit Switch Networks would be a distinct advantage.
